This documentary provides a brief history of the creation of the Metropolitan Police Service (The Met) and several famous investigations and scandals of the detectives of 'Scotland Yard'. From the creation of the Met to its transformation into one of the premier crime fighting institutions in the world, Scotland Yard's history has been marked by its use of innovative technology and bureaucracy to catch criminals and prevent crime. This documentary uses a number of famous cases to showcase the use of new technologies and methodologies to investigate and solve some of the Met's most famous cases, from the Crippen murder, to Jack the Ripper, the Stratton Brothers and the Millenium Diamond heist. Each case is used to highlight how the Met employed new techniques to investigate criminal activity, and in most cases solve crimes. Some of these new techniques also include the establishment of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Flying Squad, the systematic collection and cataloging of fingerprints, and so forth.
